Referral

You can claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 consultations per calendar year. You must have a Referral from your GP and a Mental Health Care Plan and you must be assessed by your Doctor as suffering from a mental disorder. You will need to bring the Referral, and a copy of the Mental Health Care Plan, with you to your first psychological consultation. 

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) can be obtained from your GP to help cover the cost of therapy. A MHCP enables you to access six sessions of therapeutic intervention.  Following the six sessions, a review will be undertaken and anther four sessions may be available if a need has been identified.

Fees

The fee structure for therapy is –

Clinical Psychologist - $250.00 per 50 minute session

Medicare Rebate - $131.65

Rebates

If Medicare does not already have your bank account details registered to receive rebates, register now by telephone on 132 011. 

You may claim a rebate via the Medicare system or through your private Extras insurance for any particular consultation, but not both rebates.
